What Does A Red Patch Under The Penis Head Indicate?

So I have a red patchy areas on my penis head, under the areas where my foreskin folds over the head. They are non itchy patches that tend to get redder with friction and less red with hydrocortisone. Sometimes when erect the red patches get super dry and can sometimes crack. My doc have me some Nystatin and an oral anti-fungal, thinking its a fungal infection. Granted this first came up a few years ago after a round of antibiotics. I ignored the issues and over the past few years it s gotten worse. Stupid I know. No sores or blisters have forms. But it has become more annoying because now it s on the front and back of my penis head. When flaccid, the foreskin folds over the penis head and I would imagine cause this problem. Not sure if it s viral, bacterial or fungal. I ve been on the antifungal meds and cream for two weeks with not a lot of improvement. Does it take longer to heal? I want this to go away.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, this may be a yeast overgrowth. These usually respond to Nystatin, but you may need a different antiyeast cream such as one with terbinafine in it.

Keep the area as dry as possible as yeast like dark, warm, moist environments. After a shower, pat dry and dry with a hand holding a hair dryer on the lowest setting (don't burn the skin).

Then apply for the medicine. You can also take a bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar in the water. If none of this helps, I recommend seeing a dermatologist.

Also, consider having your blood sugar checked as elevations can delay healing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
