Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking augmentin(4 tablets out of a prescribed 20), and have developed a reddish colored rash on the left side of my face, as well as the center portion of my forehead. I realize that this is one of the potential side effects of this drug, but I would like to know what enters into play to cause this, and is OK to continue taking full amount of 20, or should I cease taking them? My email address is YYYY@YYYY Thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have red rash on the face. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like atopic dermatitis , contact dermatitis , seborrheic dermatitis , psoriasis or localize infection . I would suggest you to take proper course of antihistamine drug along with short course of oral corticosteroids after proper prescription. Exfoliate your skin once in a week to remove the dead skin and also apply ice on face to reduce the redness. Drink plenty of water. Wash face with face wash containing salicylic acid twice a day and apply cream containing azelaic acid. If condition doesn't get better in a month then consult dermatologist again for proper diagnosis and to rule out any underlying condition . Doctor may prescribe isotretinoin , steroid ointment or antibiotics course.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
