What Does A Scaly Patch Of Skin On The Eyelid Indicate?

I have had a small patch of scaly skin on my eyelid for a couple of days now. This morning when I woke up, that part of my eyelid was really swollen, like it would be after crying a lot. I figured the swelling would go down through the day, but it hasn t. Should I be concerned about this, my vanity aside?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice

You seem to have a eyelid dermatitis. It could be either allergic contact dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis. I suggest you to apply an OTC mild topical steroid e.g cortisone cream (contains 1% hydrocortisone), twice daily for a few days. In addition you may also take an oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg tablet once a day for symptomatic relief from itching.

Hope this advice helps you.
