What Does A Scar Tissue On The Finger Tip Indicate?

My 4 year old grand daughter started with one finger getting what looked like scar tissue on one fingertip about one year of age. In the last 6 months has progressed to all fingertips. No help from cortisone cream prescribed by dermatologist. My best friend died last year of scleroderma. I m afraid that is what my granddaughter may have.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I have read your question and understand your concern for Scleroderma. Scleroderma may cause pitted finger tip scars but usually it is associated with cold induced bluish or reddish discoloration of fingertips followed by pale color. The skin over the fingers will be thickened and the person cannot completely flex the finger. It is also associated with other symptoms such as breathlessness, abdominal discomfort etc. If you have the above mentioned complaints, please consult your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
