What Does A Sharp Pain In The Arch Of Right Foot Indicate?

Sharp pain in arch of right foot, cycling every few seconds apart. it calms down and then starts again. When it started this pm, I elevated the foot, used my tens unit with a cold pack for about an hour. The pain went away, and I was able to walk with only minor discomfort. About four hours later it started up again, and I am back to the same treatment. The pain is sort of on the side of my arch. I am 73 years old and am very active in addition to supervised workout 3-4 days a week.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The most common causes of the pain are nerve entrapment or tendon/muscle strain. I recommend using anti-inflammatory medication to treat the pain such as Ibuprofen three tablets a day.

I also recommend to use noninflammatory cream for local application and do stretching exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
