What Does A Slightly Painful Hard Knot On Knee Cap Indicate?
I have a hard bone like knot on top exterior corner of my knee cap. It s more prominent while my knee is bent, actually I can t feel it with my leg extended. I do have some slight pain in that knee and there may be a little swelling. I m curious as to what this may be. My anxiety has me worried there may a tumor there, any thoughts?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Hard bone like knot on top of the knee cap could be bony overgrowth or a soft tissue thickening. A X-ray and / or CT scan of the knee joint is required to know the nature of the knot. A bony lesion is suspicious of a bone tumor. Soft tissue can be due to thickening of fibrous tissue or thickening of tendon or ligament. The X-ray findings are characteristic of bony tumor so I suggest you to consult an orthopedician and relevant investigations to find the nature of the lesion. You can take pain killer to relieve the pain in the meanwhile.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
