What Does A Small Lump On The Upper Left Rib Cage Signify?

I ve had a small hard lump on my left upper rib cage. It s about 2 inches below my left breast. It never bothered me before, but now it s feels bigger, and very tender to the touch. I had my gall bladder taken out in December 2012. I m starting to get a little worried. I m a 58 year old female in good shape. No health problems. What do you think it could be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have small lump on the upper left rib cage. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to certain reasons like breast cancer, fibroadenoma , cyst , tumors or lipoma . I would suggest you to consult general surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order mammogram , ultrasound along with biopsy . Doctor may also examine physically to check the tenderness and consistency . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory or may recommend radiotherapy . For now apply warm compresses on it , keep it clean and dry and apply over the counter antibiotics cream .
