What Does A Spot On The Lung Indicate?

My mom has a spot on her lung it s been there for over a year and her dr has had her on mucinex er 600 for over a year. The spot is still there and he has not done a biopsy. He just keeps telling her to take the mucinex. She is on oxygen 24 hrs a day and has a collapsed lung from a surgery, and has copd. Does this treatment seem ok?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking your question at health care magic

Spot or lesion in lung seen on xray or CT scan do not always require a biopsy. Depending upon the clinical history, associated symptoms, characteristics of the lesion your doctor may or may not order a biopsy.
Most of the lung lesions found in Xray are benign and do not require further intervention.
Most importantly if the size of the lesion is not changing over the course of time ,it indicate a benign lesion and does not require biopsy

Hope I was able to answer your question
Please feel free to address any more concerns
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
