What Does A Spot On The Roof Of The Mouth Indicate?

I ve had a spot on the roof of my mouth for years and it doesn t bother me at all. I figured it was due to the fact that I click the roof of my mouth even suck the roof of my mouth when my allergies act up J even do it in my sleep. I ve recently gone to the dentist and they used a blue light and said I should get it checked out because it might be oral cancer. I m concerned it might just be oral cancer due to the information I found online. From the picture it appears to be brown but it has white parts and it s a bit hard when I scratch at it.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain a brown spot on the roof of mouth that is present since years without any pain or discomfort can be due to causes like Oral Nevi or oral nevus that are like nevus present in other parts of body..
It is localised proliferation of nevus cells and can appear as slightly raised brown coloured dome shaped lump..

Other common cause can be Oral Melanotic Macule..

Both these conditions are non cancerous..

But my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and if there is any doubt a biopsy/FNAC can be done for diagnosis ad then only a proper treatment can be done as blue light is not a confirmation of any malignant transformation..

In case if it causes any discomfort then surgical removal can be done..

Hope your query is resolved..

Regards.
