What Does A Sudden Onset Of Dizziness And Heavy Feeling On Legs Suggest?
My husband was at work feeling fine all day...stood up and was dizzy, legs feel heavy. He says he feels like he drank to much but hasn t had anything. Blood pressure is normal did have a small headache around his ear but nothing now. This started about 3 hours ago and isn t getting better, any ideas?
Generally when you shift from lying down or sitting to standing, your blood pressure drops and you momentarily feel a little dizzy. This is a common phenomenon called orthostatic hypotension. This condition is a form of low blood pressure and episodes can last for less than a few minutes. If you measure your blood pressure after a couple of mins, the result will probably be normal.
In your husband case the symptoms persist for hours and there are other specific symptoms like headache, heavy legs that can be suggestive of a neurologist root cause like a transient ischemic attack. My advice is to go to the ER of your local hospital, if the symptoms persist for 2-3 other hours.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo, Endocrinologist
