What Does Abdominal Pain On The Left Side Indicate?

Hello Sir/ma’am. I am 30 years old man, 12 days before, I felt a pain in the left side of my stomach and the pain lasted only for 20 minutes till I urinate. Then, I felt the same pain after two days only for 20 minutes. I saw a Dr. (Urologist) and after examining my ultrasound result, he found out there is a calculus in my Urinary Bladder (Left VUJ calculus ) measuring 5mm. Except this all the tests show that my organs (kidney, prostate gland etc.) are functioning well and normal. The Dr. recommended me to take Rapilif 8mg. and to drink 4lr water every day. After the diagnosis I didn’t started taking the medicine (Rapilif 8mg) yet, I only drink water and I am doing well, no pain at all ( for the last 4 days). Based on this I have some questions 1.     Should I start taking Rapilif 8mg? 2.     For how many days will I take Rapilif? 3.     Since I feeling normal, if I didn’t take the medicine (Raplif 8mg), what will happen to my Left VUJ calculus? Thank you!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For acute phase of the recurrent diverticulitis antibiotic therapy is required but once the acute phase settles down severe and drastic lifestyle modificatory changes have to be followed by the patient for many months to avoid recurrent attacks. So I'm sorry my dear but if you are sure its diverticulitis then broad spectrum antibiotic have to be taken for 5 to 7 days. I would suggest you take Clindamycin once daily with Metronidazole 400 mg thrice daily for 5 days. They would cover both bacteria as well as protozoa, however, you would need a prescription for the same as antibiotics are not over the counter. Probiotic etc would help but if its diverticulitis then you have to take antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
