What Does Abnormal Smear Test Result Indicate?

Yesterday, my daughter who is 37 has had a phone call from her GP to say her recent smear test was abnormal. She went straight in to see him and has been given a week's course of antibiotics and is being referred for a scan. We are both so frightened. She is bringing up two little boys on her own so has only me to share her worries with. Could you tell me why she has been given antibiotics and what the probable next investigation will be?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Antibiotics are prescribed for infection.
However, you have not mentioned what smear test was done.
In case the smear test was Pap test then antibiotics are prescribed if infection is detected on the Pap test.
There is nothing to worry.
Infection is controlled by antibiotics and the Pap test can be repeated after completion of the course of antibiotic.

Thanks and take care
