What Does Absence Of Menstrual Bleeding Post Tubal Ligation Indicate?

Hi doctor, i am 39 years old female. Got tubal ligation (band) done in 2006 immediately after an abortion procedure. My lmp was on 19th of may 2016 and i started with physical relation with my husband almost every day till ending of may. Then on 2nd of june i got light spotting which was only for one day. Then on 23rd june i started with a bit heavy bleeding that lasted for around 4 to 5 days (usually i get my periods only for 2 to 3 days). Now its july 24th and i hav nt got my periods as yet and having backache, feeling more hungry, feel sleepy and tired, stomach is bloated and has grown a bit, jst cannot wear my jeans as i feel discomfort and slight pain in my lower abdomen. Did a home pregnancy test today but it showed negative. What can it be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it can be due to other pathologies like pelvic inflammation abut ultrasound pelvis will be needed in both cases to rule out pregnancy as well as any signs of local inflammation.

High Vaginal swab cultures and microscopy may also be needed but after a gynecologist review.

Meanwhile, blood HCG levels may also be done to rule out chances of pregnancy which is very rare keeping in view the history of ligation as failure rates are very rare.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
