Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hello,
Yes, your daughter’s laboratory lipid profile is quite high. This could be a false positive result. Not fasting before the test is a frequent reason for abnormal lipid profile.
She should re-take the test. But this time she should fast 12 hours before the test and should not drink alcohol 24 hours before the test.
If she is taking medications (example as birth control pills), that may also be a reason for the abnormal lipid panel. Please, consult with your doctor regarding stopping the medications before the test.
If the second lipid profile comes high again she needs further investigation (thyroid function test, blood glucose et cetera) to find out the cause of abnormal lipid profile.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
