What Does An Abrupt Weight Loss While Maintaining Regular Diet Indicate?
Hi! My name is Shawn. I recently took a pee test for my job (to check for drugs and stuff) the nurse came back and said that I was cleared but I had blood, protein and sugar in my pee. She recommended that I go to see my doctor. That I could have problems with my kidneys from the pee test. I am a prison guard and work a lot of hours, so I have kind of pushed it off but it is starting to scare me. I have lost 5 pounds and I am eating regularly. Which for most people wouldn t be an issue but I am now 108 pounds and I am 5 10 and 22 years old. I am not sure if I should see a doctor or not and even if I did if they could assist me with my weight. I have insurance but I have heard from a friend that a doctor cannot actually help with my weight. I have not seen a doctor in a while but I wouldn t want to waste there time. Thanks for any advice you can give.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
If urine shows blood (provided you were not on menses), protein and sugar in urine. It's a definite indication to cross check the tests to confirm the findings or exclude them. In case, the result stands correct, you should get further investigated for urine infection (which can reduce your weight too), blood sugar problem and get needful expert advise to manage and treat it. In case cross check excludes the findings then too you have get further investigated for the weight loss.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
