What Does An Altered Sense Of Taste Indicate?

I’ve been having a few issues. It’s like I can taste plastic in my mouth all day long. I’ve had a lot of acid reflux and stools are never normal. A lot of stomache aches at night and morning. My sinus never stop draining ever. I don’t know what it is or what to do

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of altered sense of taste which could be due to acid reflux, sinusitis, improper hygiene of oral cavity, due long term side effects of certain medications and sometimes could be due to glossopharyngeal nerve dysfunction.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you do:
- Take diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover taste.
- Maintain proper oral hygiene and use oral corticosteroids as well because it will resume back taste.
- Drink plenty of water and fluids.
- Chew on sugar free candies as it enhance and stimulate salivary flow.

You should visit neurologist once as well and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder if it is due to nerve dysfunction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
