What Does An Enlarged Tonsil Indicate?

I was drinking water earlier and felt like I was going to choke on something, I ran to the bathroom and realized a piece of my tonsil is hanging. Every time I swallow I feel it in the back of my throat. I never had any problems with my tonsils. They have just always been bigger then others. Should I be worried? It doesn't hurt or anything.

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of enlarged tonsils which seems to be due to bacterial infection which is leading to tonsillitis.

I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles. You should take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin for 5 days. You should also take anti-allergic medication.

Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get an examination of tonsils done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Avoid oily and sharp food and drink plenty of fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
