What Does An Itchy And Burning Rash On The Back Indicate?

I have a rash on my back that started out as a constant itch several weeks ago. Now it burns and at times throbs. I also developed sudden joint pain in my thumbs and part of my hands. I don t know if this is related or not, but the two together are very uncomfortable.

Hi,

I think you should no more ignore it and get evaluated. This may well be related.

There are a number of diseases that may cause both rashes and joint pain, these include infections like Lyme disease, viral infection.

It can also be psoriasis which causes skin rash and joint pain, or another autoimmune disease like sarcoidosis, etc.

These are all possibilities, and may not be your case, but it needs consideration and hence visits your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
