What Does An Itchy Red Rash On The Scalp Indicate?

I have a reddened rash with small raised pimple - like areas. No hair loss, no seeping. Extremely itchy. Suspected ringworm of scalp. Was using Lotrimin until I could get to doctor. She said it looked dried up and no longer reddened. Started me on Doxycycline 100mg. BID x 7 days. M on day 3. Beginning to itch again, and I feel a couple of small raised bumps starting again. I do have an older cat. No noted change in his fur.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy red rash on the scalp. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction , sun burn , fungal infection or side effect of medicine . I would suggest you to avoid applying any kind of cosmetic , apply petroleum jelly , protect it from sun exposure and take anti histamine like benadryl twice a day . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may order certain test like allergy test , skin patch test or blood test . Doctor may order immunosuppressants , corticosteroids , stronger antibiotics along with anti inflammatory . For now apply cold compresses and protect your skin harmful UV radiation.
