I am 62 yrs old, female, 5 ft, 1 inch, 43lbs. Last dec 26,2011 i consulted a physician due to dizziness. I was advised to have laboratory tests all were normal as per my doctor. But when I got my xray result there is an impression of basal hyperaetion. What is basal hyperaetion?

Thanks for writing in.

The term hyper aeration applies to increased expansion of the lungs. This can be a normal appearance in the elderly or due to increased lung expansion due to conditions like chronic smoke inhalation. In the basal segments of lungs, this is usually seen in persons at your age. There is no need to worry if you do not have any severe respiratory symptoms like cough or breathlessness extending for weeks to months.
