What Does Big Sore On Scrotum Imples?

my boy friend has a bump the size of a golf ball on his scrotum bag , just a little away from his anus, 3days ago, it bursts and the most foul smelling puss like liquid emerged from it, I had to stop myself from gagging,He says that its the third time it opened and I told him to go see a docter, we have been trying to conceive but lately I have experienced fever, fatigue and cold sore outbreaks, could he be suffering from some sort of STD,if not, what could this be?
