Hi Doctor, I am not getting my periods since last two months and I am not pregnant. My doctor asked to get done an ultrasound. I have done an ultrasound and the report says bilateral ovary are bulky with multiple peripherally arranged small follicles and echogenic stroma . What does it mean and is it harmful?
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. As per your sonogram report, you are experiencing polycystic ovaries. This along with absence of menstrual cycles recently, is suggestive of polycystic ovarian disease, which carries with it features like hormone imbalance, failure of ovulation, infertility, obesity, abnormal hair growth etc. This is a condition with very good response to treatment and hence you need not worry. It is not harmful when appropriately managed. Maintain a healthy diet, regular exercise and a healthy weight as this helps to control the hormone imbalance to a reasonable extent. Hope this information is helpful. Take care.
