O started with diarrhea turning quite severe, like taking a prep for colonoscopy. I did not eat or drink for 24 hours and then started sipping Canasda Dry. Now there is a lot of blood from rectum, lots of mucus but it is bright red and as heavy as a period. Should I be worried? I was taking a generic Keflex and stopped when this startef.
1. Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern
i. Rectal bleeding can vary from simple hemorrhoids to other medical condition such as anal fissure or polyp, proctitis, Crohn's disease, chronic constipation, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer thus check with a General Surgeon for physical examination [per rectum], an investigation [stool for occult blood] for correct diagnosis and management.
ii. As diarrhea is of recent origin, thus initially exclude 'infective diarrhea' as the cause of pathology. [and immediately consult an infectious disease specialist [as bleeding is more] or a Gastroenterologist.
