Hello ... I was sick for a couple of days and went to my Doctor on Wednesday. He took a test and determined I have the flu. He prescribed five days of Oseltamivir Phosphate (75mg) and it does seem to be making for improvement. When I first saw him I was coughing up a tan colored flem. After a couple of day I noticed a bit of blood in the flem. Yesterday the flem was back to normal but today there is once again some blood. Is this something serious ....

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Lower respiratory infection or tuberculosis can gives such bloody sputum. So better to do a sputum AFB test to rule out tuberculosis. Antibiotic should be taken also. I would suggest broad spectrum antibiotics like Co amoxiclav for 1 week in such case. Taking mucolytics also is good. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
