What Does Blood In Phlegm Indicate?

Hello ... I was sick for a couple of days and went to my Doctor on Wednesday. He took a test and determined I have the flu. He prescribed five days of Oseltamivir Phosphate (75mg) and it does seem to be making for improvement. When I first saw him I was coughing up a tan colored flem. After a couple of day I noticed a bit of blood in the flem. Yesterday the flem was back to normal but today there is once again some blood. Is this something serious ....

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Lower respiratory infection or tuberculosis can gives such bloody sputum. So better to do a sputum AFB test to rule out tuberculosis. Antibiotic should be taken also. I would suggest broad spectrum antibiotics like Co amoxiclav for 1 week in such case. Taking mucolytics also is good.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
