What Does Blood In Stool And Urine Indicate?

My doctor diagnosed that my stool had blood in it. I checked back my health history which shows that I have the blood in my stool and urine since 2002. All this time, my doctors told me it was from hemorrhoids. I had colonoscopy twice, one in 2002 (only the lower part of the body) and one in 2008 (Upper and lower colonoscopy, and the doctor found 2 polyps in the descending colon but they were benign. He told me that the blood was from my hemorrhoid but he found some bacteria in my intestine and gave me some medicine for it. But, I still found blood in my stool since then. This year, my OB/GYN used his gloved finger to check inside my anus and got some mucus. He tested it and found no blood. But, the blood showed in my blood test. I do not feel any discomfort in my abdomen, no vomiting or any physical discomfort. The blood is inside & outside on the stool, not a whole lot. It is red and like the sesame seed size and some are thread like, about 1/2 - 1 . Two time, it appeared to have a half a dollar size blood on the bottom of the toilet bowl. I wonder where the blood come from?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. . I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
In most cases, causes of abdominal pain and bleeding through rectum are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet and sitzbaths. It is very important to take lot of fluids, probiotics, high fibre food and stool softeners to avoid hard stool and straining. If there is no improvement in next few weeks, then surgical management should be considered. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss. Otherwise, you can see if conservative therapy will help and consult proctologist if necessary
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
