What Does Bloody Mucus Discharge From The Anus Indicate?

Sometimes after I run I feel like I am going to have a bowel movement or even diarrhea but instead when I go to the toilet I pass bloody mucus sometimes small clots and have blood on the tissue. I am 51 and have already had two colonoscopies primarily for constipation and bloating . The colonoscopies were clean. I do have quite a bit of constipation and usually only have bowel movements 2-3 times a week with one of those days being a large amount

Hi,

Bloody mucus discharge from the anus can be a sign of several possible conditions, including hemorrhoids, anal fissures, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, or colorectal cancer.

Given your history of constipation and bloating, your symptoms may be related to a condition such as hemorrhoids or anal fissures, which can cause bleeding and pain during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectum or anus, while anal fissures are small tears in the lining of the anus.

However, it's also important to consider the possibility of more serious conditions, such as IBD or colorectal cancer, which can also cause bloody mucus discharge. IBD is a chronic condition that includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which cause inflammation and ulcers in the digestive tract. Colorectal cancer is cancer that starts in the colon or rectum and can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, and blood in the stool.

Given your symptoms and history, it's important to see a healthcare provider for an evaluation and diagnosis. They may recommend additional tests, such as a fecal occult blood test, stool analysis, or imaging tests, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.

In the meantime, it's important to maintain good bowel habits and manage your constipation to reduce the likelihood of further irritation or bleeding. This can include drinking plenty of water, eating a high-fiber diet, and getting regular exercise. If your symptoms worsen or you experience severe pain or bleeding, seek immediate medical attention.

Hello,

Your symptoms may be indicative of inflammatory bowel disease, anal fissure, hemorrhoids, Crohn's disease, colon neoplasm, colon cancer, sexually transmitted infections, etc. Get clinically examined by a GP, get all required tests and investigations done. Treatment may involve managing the underlying condition with medications or other interventions.

You are suggested to increase your fiber intake, fluid intake, and warm baths to help relieve symptoms associated with conditions like hemorrhoids or anal fissures.

Depending on the underlying cause of the anal mucus discharge, you will be prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, or topical creams to help reduce inflammation and improve symptoms. In cases where the anal mucus discharge is caused by a more severe condition like an anal fistula, surgery may be necessary to correct the issue.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
