What Does Bruises On Leg After Having Sprained Foot Indicate?

I sprained my foot 11 days ago and it's just now starting to show all the bruising. Although, where all the bruising is, is not where the pain is. Why is that? And also, I have a bruise about the size of a thumb print on the bottom of my foot. I was also wonder why that was also.
