What Does Bump On The Finger Indicate?

Hi, I am having a small bump on my little finger last joint and it was recently infected, which turn out to be an absess but it is healed but the bump is still there, the doctor is saying that it is an extra bone and I will have to do surgery to get it out and it is a technical surgery. I did an extra. Can yu confirm if that is so or give me some more info. on that, I noticed another bump on my third finger on the other hand.
