What Does Burning Sensation In The Upper Back On The Left Side Indicate?

My left upper back (shoulder blade) has been burning or giving me a stinging sensation for the past 5 days. My fiancé said he sees what looks like could be a tiny bite but there is no redness or swelling. What could this be and how can I treat it? It s becoming more and more uncomfortable and I cannot afford to see a doctor at this time.
