What Does Burning Sensation On The Tongue Along With Mouth Ulcers Indicate?

Hello, I am a 38 female and for the last roughly 2 weeks my mouth/tongue has felt like it was burned or like I have just eaten a grilled sandwich that tore up my mouth. Now I have a few cankersores on the sides of my tongue and the roof of my mouth and insides of my gums hurt. I ve been using hydrogen peroxide for the past few days to try and help it heal but it is not making any progress. Eating is now becoming difficult. Is this something I need to just wait out? Thanks for your help! Arica

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

The symptoms that you have explained in your query of having burned sensation in mouth and now having canker sores is pointing towards Apthous Stomatitis..

It is an inflammation inside mouth that gives a burned feeling along with eruption of small sores or ulcers..

A number of common causes are seen to cause this like deficiency of iron and vitamin B12, if you take any medication it can be a side effect of the same, stress, physical trauma to the tongue, allergies, acid reflux etc..

At times eating very spicy and sour foods regularly or munching on hard or sharp foods like chips and crisps can also cause the same..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests can help in diagnosis..

For now you can gargle with mouthwash like Magic Mouthwash as it will help in reducing inflammation as well as pain.
You can also take a multivitamin tablet daily..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Suck ice and do cool water rinses..
Avoid spicy food..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
