What Does Chest Pain Near The Sternum Indicate?

Hello i have had some chest pain near the sternum and upper breastbone area afew days ago i was doing gymnastics when i heard alittle click i was very worried i went to the doctors they said i should be fine in a few days i think i have costochondritis if so is it meant to hurt when i sneze or cough my age is 12
