Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been constipated for about a month and a half, this is a very new occurrence, usually he is very regular. His mother had colon cancer and we are concerned, his last colonoscopy was 3 years ago, could this be an early symptom of something going on? nothing in his diet or activity has changed and his only medicine is synthroid.
As per your complain chronic constipation can occur due to causes like sudden change in dietary habit, side effects of medication, lack of physical activity, stress, dehydration, diseases like Irritable bowel syndrome etc.. I would suggest you to start taking a high fibre diet and along with it you can also take plenty of water.. Take plenty of green leafy vegetable, fruits and salads.. You can also continue taking fibre supplements and laxatives.. Do moderate workout and take walk after meals.. In case if still there is no improvement consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and he can advise you Colonoscopy to rule out the cause. You can be advised Prescription medicines like Lubiprostone and Linclotide..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
