What Does Chronic Small Vessel Disease Of The Brain Indicate?

What does chronic small vessel disease of the brain indicate? My MRI also said subtle asymmetric volume loss of the left hippocampus and left sided mesial temporal sclerosis and multipal foci of T2/FLAIR hyperintensity in the periventricular and subcortical white matter. Should I be worried? Thank you for your assistance. Greta

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic small vessel disease can occur due to various causes like autoimmune diseases, infection etc.

Chronic small vessel disease can lead to decreased blood flow to the brain tissue and hence causing hypoxia or lack of oxygen delivery to brain tissue.

To an effective treatment, the cause of chronic small vessel disease needs to be found out.

I suggest you consult your physician to investigate to find out probable cause of small vessel disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
