i am a 32 yrs female. i conceived last wk after 2 yrs of marriage which was proved by urinary hCG test which was strong positive hence pregnancy of 5 wks was considered by LMP but about 2 days after the test i had abd cramps followed by vaginal bleeding and passage of a fleshy mass which was sent for biopsy revealing degenerating deciduoid tissues and no chorionic villi were seen. what was this condition and how can i prevent this? do i need to worry as my age is advancing,is it related to my age ?thank you for ur reply doctor
Hi, I have gone through your question. Degenerating decidual tissue means that the decidua which is the lining of the pregnant uterus, which nourishes the conception in early gestation has degenerated, means lost its vitality. It can be a cause of miscarriage in your case. Chorionic villi may not be seen due to only a selective part of the conceptus was pathologically examined or it was a blighted ovum, in which the fetus is not formed. The cause of early miscarriage is most commonly chromosomal anomalies in the fetus, and the incidence is increased as the maternal age advances. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Regards, Dr Deepti verma
