What Does Dessicated L2-L3 Disc With Central Posterior Annular Fissure Protrusion Indenting The Thecal Sac In An MRI Report Suggest?

Just got MRI - Lumbar Spine done and Technique:T1-T2 Sagittals & Axials, IR Coronals. Findings: Dessicated L2-L3 disc with central posterior annular fissure protrusion indenting the thecal sac. Central schmorl s nodes with no evidence of inflammatory changes noted along superior endplates of L2 & L3, and inferior endplate of L2. Alignment, heights and bone marrow signal intensity of all the lumbar vertebral bodies are within normal limits. Curvature of spine is well maintained. Signal configuration of conus and cauda are within normal limits. Configuration of rest of the discs, thecal sac, filar roots, lateral recesses, neural foraminae, neural arches, facet joints and posterior elements are within normal limits. No intra / extraspinal masses seen. Dimensions of rest of the spinal canal are within normal limits. Both sacroiliac joints show normal signal configuration. Screening cervical spine shows: Disc osteophyte complex extending from C4-C5 to C6-C7 levels indenting the thecal sac with mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. No altered signal in cord / atrophy. This is the impression finding - Dessicated L2-L3 disc with central posterior annular fissure protrusion indenting the thecal sac. I am having some difficulty in walking and sporadic pain on the left side during the day. Suggest, what is recommended as next steps? Please advise. Thanks a lot to all the doctors!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

*As per my clinical experience, the issue sounds to be related to partial effects of spondylosis at various spinal levels.
*Most important primary consideration is supportive care with assisted Physiotherapy with experts, medications of anti inflammatory properties, calcium , magnesium supplements and other supportive care to control blood sugar, body weight and so forth.
*Surgery comes as last resort where all conservative measures fail to respond.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
