What Does Discomfort Under The Ribcage On The Left Side Indicate?

Having a bit discomfort on my left side under or along the rib cage. No problem eating, the discomfort comes and goes. I use a backpack and will carry very heavy stuff around for long periods of time. I do drink beer on my days off from work. No cigs or other drugs.
