Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Double Vision After Cataract Surgery Indicate?
I m in Toronto. I had cataract surgery (lens removal) about 4 years ago, both eyes. My vision was near 20/20 - both eyes. Now, just yesterday, I am noticing double vision using both eyes at a distance, but no new effects at close range. Separately each eye has the same good vision. To get some clues, I ve booked an appointment with an optometrist next week who may refer me back to the clinic and surgical doctor.
Double vision is usually caused by paralysis/weakness or loss of coordination of one or more muscles that control the position and teaming of the eyes.
It may also be caused due to corneal irregularities due to deterioration of the corneal structure, changes in intra-ocular pressures, dry eyes due to the poor quality/quantity of tears and refractive errors.
You need clinical evaluation and hence you need to consult Optometrist and Ophthalmologist to know what could be the cause, so that appropriate treatment can be considered accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
