Echogenic intracardiac focus is a relatively common finding that may be present on an antenatal ultrasound scan in the 5th month. The majority of echogenic intracardiac foci are unilateral. Out of all the cardiac chambers, the left ventricle is the most frequent.
The presence of an echogenic intra cardiac focus has to be interpreted in the context of maternal risk factors and other sonographic anomalies. It is considered as a soft marker for sonological anomalies and not an absolute indicator of disease. As an isolated finding in a normal pregnancy it is considered normal and not significant. The presence of multiple or bilateral (more than one chamber) echogenic foci may increase the risk.
Since you have done Downs syndrome test and found it to be normal, there is no additional risk. Low dose aspirin is usually given by some doctors and that is the reason it is prescribed.
