What Does Elevated BP And Swelling Around The Ankle Indicate?

I had 3 tests today( aorta ultrasound, caroted -Dopler, and echocardiogram. Last Friday I had venous extremities and EKG) the important one: ultrasound of the Aorta apparently showed 3 aneurisms (abdominal) the last test: echocardiogram told me the results of the previous test: probably he didn t know I had only finished the test 5 min. prior... anyways, I was hoping the physical changes I ve recently felt, were due to the addition of Rosuvastin CA (Crestor). Changes/ same time major changes: Quit smoking 5/15. Start of Statin drug 5/28. 30 LBS gained in 3 months (by 8/30) 2 weeks ago I drove down the hill (yucca Valley elev: 3,400 ft. to Pasadena, CA (elev 500ft?) to go deep sea fishing and when I returned home that night, I noticed both ankles very swollen, R ankle severely swollen. That Mon. I saw My DR, she saw my R ankle at 2/3 as swollen, and with my elevated Blood pressure that day (I m normally 117/77 or so... I couldn t hear what was said, but both aide and Dr. Agarwal noted my BP was significantly elevated. So... my question is, what comes next? I thought my Dr. might even call today, but as I ve survived this long, what s the odds of popping an aneurism in the 2 wks before my reg. appt. w/ Dr. Agarwal? Is the EXTREME bloating after I eat ANYthimg related to the abd. aneurism? Is there anything I should do (beside take all meds as directed) or NOT do( exercise, golfing, eating wheat: excess bloating...) I need to be aware of? Or, pergaps: relax, and wait for Dr. Hospital, or Blue Shield to call? Your advise/opinion mioght help me sleep better tonight. Thanks YYYY@YYYY From Kathi, Thanks,

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you have history of deep see diving, we should first rule out deep venous thrombosis (DVT) as a cause for your lower limb edema. You are at risk of DVT because of hypertension, aortic aneurysm, age and smoking habit. So in my opinion, you should wait for doctors call because you need bilateral lower limb doppler study. At home you can do

1. Limb elevation
2. Salt restriction
3. Avoid stress and tension.

Aortic aneurysm can not cause gaseous distention or bloating. So you might have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) due to smoking history which is causing these symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
