What Does Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Indicate?

I had a recent Dr s appointment and was told my blood pressure was a little high and the nurse partitioner prescribed a med. I have not taken it yet. I have been monitoring my blood pressure several times aday and it has been normal except 2 times, which was 121/80..........all other times it was 109/70 range give or take 3 points. Do I really need to take the meds?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,thanks for the question.
understand your concern.,
a) blood pressure means amount of pressure blood exerts on the wall of the arteries that inturn reflects work load of your heart..
b) To be more specific elevated blood pressure or hypertension is when your blood pressure is above 150/90 if age is above 60years or above 140/90mm of Hg if age is between 18-59 years according to standard protocol called jnc 8 classification of hnt..
hence absolutely there is no indication of taking medication for your blood pressure readings.
hope i anwered your query.any further doubts can get back to me..
thank you..
