What Does Extreme Weight Loss After Heart Failure Indicate?
I have an 83 year old brother who is being followed for coronary heart failure -- he s gone from 200 lbs to 125lbs despite eating small but regular meals. Is this part of the normal progression of his condition or could something else be going on. He s had MRI and CT scans. The only other recent symptom was that he had 2liters of fluid removed from one lung. How do we help him gain weight?

Fluid removed from pleural covering around lung... inducates lung infection/pleural effusion,which can be due to left ventricular failure... this has caused fast weight loss in this case.
He needs examination of the drained fluid/blood counts &sputum test along ECG to find exact cause followed by specific treatment.Treatment of basic cause& &control of heart failure would help him in gainning health&weight.
