Does the building-up of fluid in the lungs pose immediate danger ? on Friday Feb. 24, before the weekend, the doctor issued instructions for the medical stuff to perform a chest tube insertion procedure to drain the fluid building-up in the lungs of the patient from the pleural space. The fluid is continuously accumulating in the lungs and the patient’s ability to breath is continuously deteriorating progressively. It is a repeat of last weekend’s situation, when the accumulation of fluid was enormous, Tuesday morning, after the long weekend, they removed 2 liters of fluid. I am not sure how dangerous the situation is

Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of a condition called pleural effusion. A detailed evaluation is required to find out the cause. Pneumonia and tuberculosis are the two common causes.
