Good Morning,
Please calm down. We are here to guide and educate when needed. First, you ask about
globulin of 1.6. It is low. Interpretation can be made after looking at several other variables that I have not been informed of such as other abnormal lab values, chronic health conditions, medications. . .Low globulin are, in general, seen in the following conditions:
1.Malnutrition;
2. Hemolysis
3. Liver Disease
4. Wilson's Disease
5. Hyperthyroidism
Knowing whether the globulin was Apha 1 or Apha 2 would have been helpful. My patients would get a TSH, free T4, CBC, Liver Enzymes, Pre-
Albumin and a weight history to start.
As far as your lipids go - if you have thyroid issues or liver dysfunction, that could be the reason for the increase. Diet alone generally will not lower your
cholesterol enough to meet the less than 200 mg/dl goal and the doctor will suggest first, a 10%
weight loss if
overweight, correction of hyperthyroidism if that is the problem, medical nutrition diet counseling and exercise.
It is difficult to give you nutritional advice without knowing if there are medical problems behind it. If you follow a general Heart Healthy diet while you pursue more testing that will get you started on a positive lifestyle path to lowering your lipids.
Triglycerides should be below 150 mg/dl and are an independent risk factor for
heart disease. Abstaining from alcohol, sugar will help decrease these.
Increasing soluble fiber (oats, legumes, etc) will lower cholesterol - shoot for 25 grams of total fiber.
Lower
saturated fat in diet; lower sugar in diet; lose weight if needed and exercise. Guidelines specify 150 minutes per week to start.
Feel free to come back when you have more medical information. Regards, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
