Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother has stage 4 brain cancer. she had surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible but did not do chemo or radiation treatment. She is at home on hospice care and up until today she has had a good appetite and liquid consumption has been great. Today she woke up and would not eat or drink anything and has thrown up 3 times. The first 2 times were a small amount that looked like normal bile light yellow in color. the 3rd time was a large amount of dark green liquid. What is this a sign of? She was diagnosed 3 1/2 months ago.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Brain cancer in stage 4 can cause metastasis to occur anywhere in the body. The bile vomiting with inability to swallow indicate that there may be an intestinal obstruction in proximal part. I would advise her the following in such a situation: Take her to the hospital. X-ray of the abdomen in sitting or standing position can tell about obstruction. CT scan with contrast may help further. Tests of blood for CBC, electrolytes, urea, creatitine and others as needed on clinical evaluation. Needs admission to the hospital for intravenous fluid and electrolyte replacement and other treatment as may be needed.
