What Does Heart Functioning At 20% Indicate?

My father is not very forth coming with information and just informed me today that he is having heart surgery on Friday. He said they didn t know what was wrong, that he had had many little heart attacks; that his heart is only working at 20%; that the surgery was to explore; that he may or may not be going home that night. Any idea what I can expect based on this little information? Should I plan on staying with him if he is sent home? He doesn t accept help easily so it would be a fight to get him to allow me to.

Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! regarding your concern I recommed you to better stay close to your father on this period, as the information he gave to you is a bit really confusing and he probably is hiding you some details. A heart working wit ha 20% ejection fraction is really a severely damaged heart, and a difficult to deal with facing different option of treatment. So, I thing you father needs a close support this period, though he denies it.
