What Does Inflated Lungs As Shown In X Ray Suggest?

Hi I hope you can help I have just had exrays that have shown inflated lungs, I have never been a smoker and there is no COAD showing ,there. I have had ex rays taken and they show inflated lungs, there is no COAD showing, no consolidation or mass or pleural abnormality. The heart shadow is not enlarged there is no CCF. I dot have a left branch block. Could you please tell me what could be causing this problem, I also get very puffy and short of breath. Your input would be very appreciated. thank you. Pam Crew.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Hyperinflated lungs can cause some air trapped inside the lungs, resulting in hyperinflated lungs and hence, blocking the airways. Air in the air sacs can make the air-sacs less elastic and hence, difficult to expel air from air sacs. This trapped air in the sacs also causes hyperinflation of lungs and hence, a pressure on bronchii causing chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD).

Treatment of COPD or hyperinflated lungs, can be done with bronchodilator and lungs exercises to relieve the symptoms. In rare cases, not amenable to bronchodilator, surgical removal of blocked sac area to remove the obstruction of bronchii may be advised.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
