What Does It Mean To Have Enlarged Prostate As Shown On Ultrasound?

ultrasound of my abdomen reveals that my prostate is enlarged and show homogenous echo. approx weight 28gms. no free fluid or abnormal mass. my doctor has prescribed urimax 0.4mg. he has also prescribed vertine 16
I am feeling uneasy after taking the medicines. should i continue?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The prostate is a small organ at the base of the urinary bladder in males. It can get enlarged in many men above 60 years of age. The size should be within 25 grams but at 28 grams your prostate is only mildly enlarged. It is important to know if you are having any post void urine residue. If you do not have urinary retention problems then taking medication might be optional if you are having any side effects. Please discuss with your doctor.
