What Does It Mean When Scan Report Shows Atherosclerotic Calcifications Of The Coronary Arteries After ASD Repair
my mom had an asd repair with a maze procedure done about 8 years ago and now a cat scan is showing (there is tortuosity of the descending aorta.there are atherosclerotic calcifications of the coronary arteries.the heart is prominent in the central pulmonary arteries are prominent. exactly what does this mean?
Thanks for the query. It means that there are calcium and cholesterol deposits in her arteries and she warrants full treatment for coronary artery disease: good blood pressure control, no smoking, regular exercise, screening and treating diabetes and strict cholesterol control.
The enlarged heart size may be related to her prior congenital defect, and the prominent pulmoanry artery may reflect increase pressures in the arteries, again, perhaps residual changes from her ASD.
Hope this helps wish you the best,
