What Does Itching, Redness And Swelling On The Leg After An Insect Bite?

Hello, I have been bitten by something and I m not sure what it was. I was in the Texas Hill country over the holidays. The bite took place on Monday afternoon (I didn t feel it) while I was taking a nap in a hammock (a brand new clean hammock). I noticed my right back leg was itching and noticed some redness about the size of a quarter. The next morning I woke up and the redness is the size of a tennis ball. It itches and burns. I do not see any specific bite marks. Today it the redness is the size of a large grapefruit and is quite red and hot. It still itches. I have used cortisone cream and ice with no reduction in redness or swelling.

Hello,

Swelling on leg which is red accompanied by itching and burning could be due to infection. In case there is any bite, there could be infection at the site of bite. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment of the swelling, relevant investigations and thus management.
