What Does Itching Under The Left Arm Indicate?

I have had itching around the left shoulder and under the left arm since October. Every so often the itching turns to a burning, heated sensation sensitive to the touch. There is no rash. It is localized to this small area and has never spread beyond. I do not have dry skin. I am wondering if I could have a mild case of shingles. I had the shingles vaccine four years ago.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your description it seems like some kind of fungal infection. Shingles is very unlikely. You can apply topical antifungal ointments like Clotrimazole over the affected area. If itching is intolerable, You can take antihistamines like pheneramine or atarax. Keep the affected area dry. If symptoms persist despite all these, consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
